The Story Behind Pop-a-clog
Born from a dad's frustration. Built to protect every home.
It Started With a Flood
Like millions of homeowners, Pop-a-clog's inventor dealt with the same recurring nightmare: a clogged AC condensate drain line. Water backing up into the drain pan. Overflowing onto the ceiling. Destroying drywall, flooring, and personal property.
The first time, the repair cost over $10,000. The second time, it happened while the family was away on vacation. Each time, the “solution” was the same: call a plumber at $150–$300 a visit, clear the clog, and hope it doesn't happen again. But it always did.
A Dad in His Workshop
Tired of the cycle — clog, flood, plumber, repeat — he started looking for a permanent solution. What he found were chemical dispensers: devices that drip cleaning solution into the drain line every few weeks. They required refills, cost money every quarter, installed inside near the air handler, and still couldn't guarantee the chemicals would reach every bend in the pipe.
He had a different idea. What if, instead of trying to prevent the clog with chemicals, a device could detect the clog and destroy it? The same way a plumber does it — with a blast of compressed air — but automatically, without a service call?
That idea became Pop-a-clog.
Why “Pop-a-clog”?
The name carries a double meaning. First, it describes exactly what the product does: it pops (blasts) clogs clear. Second, it's a nod to its creator — “Papa Clog,” the dad who got fed up with drain problems and built the solution himself. Papa Clog. Pop-a-clog. A dad's invention for every home.
Our Journey
From a flooded house to a product that protects thousands of homes.
The Flood That Started It All
A clogged AC condensate drain floods the house while the family is on vacation. Over $10,000 in damage. The hunt for a real solution begins.
Garage Workshop Prototype
After months of research and failed experiments with chemical approaches, the first mechanical prototype using compressed air is built in the garage.
Patent Filed
The compressed-air clog detection and clearing mechanism is refined and a patent application is filed. Field testing begins with neighbors and local HVAC professionals.
Production Design Finalized
After 18 months of field testing and design iteration, the production version of Pop-a-clog is finalized and manufacturing partners are secured.
Pop-a-clog Launches
Pop-a-clog goes on sale direct-to-consumer. The only mechanical, zero-chemical AC drain clog solution hits the market at $99.
